ORIGIN: TURKEY

This vintage Turkish Bergama rug features a bold and grounded tribal aesthetic, characterised by its geometric precision and earthy monochromatic palette. At the centre, a large stepped hexagonal medallion dominates the field, filled with angular motifs and stylised animal or amulet-like figures, all rendered in tones of deep brown, mocha, and cream, creating a powerful contrast and a sense of movement.
The inner field is flanked by a serrated diamond edge pattern that mirrors traditional Anatolian symbolism, encapsulating protection and continuity. The surrounding field is densely decorated with rosettes, hooked polygons, and scattered floral medallions, adding texture and rhythmic variation to the composition. The four corners of the field echo the central motifs, maintaining balance and visual harmony.
The rug is encased in a multi-band border system, the widest of which features repeating octagonal medallions and sawtooth motifs, commonly found in Bergama weavings. Secondary borders feature diagonal bars and angular vine work, all hand-drawn with a slightly irregular charm that highlights their artisanal origin.
The wool is hand-spun, and the weave is firm yet supple, likely dyed with natural pigments that have mellowed into warm, harmonious browns and soft whites. With its restrained colour scheme and striking geometry, this Bergama rug brings a strong yet minimalistic tribal energy, ideal for grounding rustic, bohemian, or contemporary interiors.
