This is a 17th-century Brussels tapestry border fragment, woven in wool and preserved from the outer frame of a larger wall hanging; it features a vertical procession of lush Baroque florals large cream and ochre blossoms, tulip-like blooms, clustered berries, and deep blue and green foliage arranged between curling acanthus leaves and volutes, all set against a rich blue ground and contained within a warm golden ochre border, a framing device typical of Brussels workshops of the period, where such elaborate floral borders originally surrounded a central mythological or courtly scene; the fragment shows expected age wear and minor joins from being cut down, but the tonal harmony of soft golds, slates, greens, and muted browns survives with striking depth, making it both decorative and historically significant as a surviving architectural “frame” from a grand 17th-century tapestry.
