Vintage Kashmiri Hallway Rug 13' x 2'7"
SIZE: 13 X 2.7 FT.
ORIGIN: KASHMIR
CIRCA: 1970s
MATERIAL: PURE WOOL
This vintage Kashmiri hallway rug is a finely hand-knotted woollen piece, showcasing the region’s exceptional craftsmanship and mastery of symmetrical geometric design. Woven on a soft ivory field, the composition features a central column of repeated stepped medallions, alternating in warm terracotta, muted gold, and soft camel tones, each finely adorned with stylised floral and rosette motifs.
The medallions are linked by subtle angular connectors, giving the layout a rhythmic architectural balance, ideal for narrow hallway spaces. Small floral sprays and delicate motifs fill the negative space between the medallions, adding richness without overcrowding the field.
Flanking the central pattern are layered borders, the main border is filled with a classic Kashmiri floral vine, while the guard borders on either side carry serrated leaf forms and small geometric accents in complementary tones of burnt orange, ochre, navy, and beige. The use of warm, earthy hues against the creamy background creates a visually pleasing contrast, offering both brightness and warmth.
Crafted from high-quality wool, the texture is soft and resilient, with a moderately low pile that suits high-traffic areas like corridors. The rug’s long, narrow proportions, harmonious palette, and crisp detailing make it a practical, decorative accent for both traditional and modern interiors.
